Haimark Line Ltd., operator of the Saint Laurent coastal
ship, has canceled all future cruises, according to the Federal Maritime
Commission.
The Saint Laurent was supposed to launch a series of Cuba
cruises in late February, but Haimark canceled the first sailing because the
company hadn't been able to resolve a dispute with the ship’s owner, Clipper
Cruises.
Haimark Line filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
reorganization last fall because of an unresolved insurance claim with Clipper
Cruises. Haimark had to cancel four cruises after the Saint Laurent sustained
damage last summer. The ship struck a lock navigating the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Haimark appeared to be on the road to resolving its
dispute when private equity firm VC2 Capital acquired Haimark Line and
affiliated river cruise line Haimark Ltd. in January. At the time, Haimark Line
president Hans Rood said the company was finalizing the Saint Laurent
deployment and said that “this might take a few more days.”
